To be a fly on the wall at the El Toro Lounge Recording Studio you would most likely see an array of Dave’s Polar seltzer water bottles, the aftermath of Paul’s snack food wrappers and vast array of guitar amplifiers. Petrina’s lyric sheets stacked high on a music stand along with Jason’s high energy and jokes after he’s had his fill of caffeine for the day. All the while, Dave cracking the whip at the helm with his sarcastic wit and excellent engineering skills. This is what would make up the long hours of recording the debut EP of ARC220’s 2020 release Songs From the El Toro Lounge.
Packed with rock riffs for days by guitarist Paul Mangiaratti. Soaring, soulful melodies from singer Petrina Foley. The thunderous, raw and energy filled rhythmic foundation from drummer Jason Nute and bassist Dave Leitch help to combine heavy hitting tracks and carry the classic and hard rock influences of Songs From The El Toro Lounge.
Produced & mixed by Leitch, each song has a story to tell. Words of love for someone who has decided to move on (More Than I Can Take). Someone who has been pushed down in their life and tries to rise above on their own (Until You Fall). Toxic relationships and how difficult it can be to navigate through them (What To Say). Having the courage to remain true to yourself while finding the balance of how much of yourself to give (Where I Stand). Foley speaks personally of the latter two songs and references the classic The Wizard of Oz as she sings of the constant search for something bigger and better, while all the while it’s always been within us (Will We Ever Land).
The members of ARC220 are no strangers to the Boston music scene. Nute and Leitch were part of the Boston rock band Bone Dry System, releasing a full album & two EP’s. Mangiaratti and Nute formed the band Singlecast, releasing a full length self titled album. Foley has released a solo EP along with various singles.
Being admirers of each other's work for quite some time, coming together to form ARC220 was a seamless and quite rewarding experience for the four piece. Mutual respect and trust made the writing and recording process a true musical collaboration, one the members are extremely proud of.
